Our vision is for Queensland manufacturing to thrive with a skill, adaptive workforce – where industry needs are translated into coordinated training solutions, every manufacturer can access the talent they require, and the sector is a powerful driver of economic prosperity and innovation.

Our strategic pillars

Strengthening the pipeline and capacity for manufacturing’s future

Manufacturing is vital to Queensland – with the sector touching the fabric of all Queenslanders’ lives directly and indirectly, every day.

Our industry employs more than 170,000 people and contributed $28.9 billion to the Queensland economy last financial year. Queensland’s abundant natural resources, comprehensive transport and infrastructure networks, world-class universities and training institutes make the State an attractive place to operate.

Yet, the manufacturing industry functions in a rapidly changing operational environment with skill and labour shortages, technology advancements, and workforce challenges.

MSQ’s aim is to ensure the industry has a diverse and sustainably skilled workforce ready to embrace new and emerging technologies and respond to economic opportunities or challenges.

We’re focused on attracting, retaining, and developing capability in the sector. Through industry engagement, evidence-based research and partnerships, MSQ is working to create the skills pathways for the future of manufacturing in Queensland.

Founded in November 2022, MSQ is dedicated to building the skills and workforce capacity of Queensland's manufacturing industry. Through our Annual Training Plan, we invest strategically in training solutions that address the key challenges impacting industry productivity—including promotion of career pathways, training system barriers, availability of quality training, and access to suitable talent. Developed in close consultation with industry, our plans outline targeted solutions across four strategic focus areas designed to support manufacturers as they navigate and thrive in a changing and growing economy. We work alongside industry to ensure Queensland's manufacturing sector has the skilled workforce it needs for a competitive future.
