The third round of the Women in Trades Mentoring Program (WITMP) officially launched today, continuing its mission to support and retain women in Queensland’s manufacturing trades.
Round 3 brings together 43 mentors and mentees who share a commitment to fostering a more inclusive and future-ready manufacturing sector. More than 100 mentees have been supported by the program to date.
The program, led by Manufacturing Skills Queensland (MSQ) and supported by the Queensland Government, pairs experienced tradespeople with female apprentices to provide guidance, encouragement, and practical career support.
MSQ chief executive Rebecca Andrews said the program is helping to reshape the future of the industry.
“We’re proud to see this initiative gaining momentum. Round 3 is not just about mentoring—it’s about creating a culture where women in trades feel seen, supported, and set up for success.
“We know that retention is just as important as recruitment. This program is helping women stay in the industry by giving them the tools, networks, and confidence to thrive.”
The program continues its partnership with Brancher, a digital mentoring platform that enables seamless communication and progress tracking between mentors and mentees.
Holly Brailsford, CEO of Brancher, said the platform is designed to foster meaningful, long-term connections.
“Mentoring is a powerful way to build confidence and capability. With Brancher, we’re making it easier for mentors and mentees to stay connected, share insights, and grow together—no matter where they are in Queensland,” Ms Brailsford said.
Laila Stevens, a third-year apprentice lithographic printer at Eckersley Print, is preparing to begin her journey as a mentor in the Women in Trades Mentoring Program and shared her enthusiasm for supporting the next generation.
“Becoming a mentor feels like a meaningful step forward. I remember what it was like starting out—having someone to guide you can make all the difference. My workplace has given me a strong foundation, and now I’m excited to share that experience with others. It’s incredibly rewarding to know I can help someone feel more confident and supported as they navigate their own path in the industry.”
The Women in Trades Mentoring Program is open to female apprentices across Queensland’s manufacturing sector. Participants benefit from one-on-one mentoring, networking opportunities, and access to industry events and resources.
